Americas (OSA) will publish a souvenir for the 38th Annual OSA Convention,
which will be held in
We are celebrating our oDiA
heritage and the unique thread of oDiAness in our ubiquitous diversity.
Our heritage comprises high moral character and loyalty to oDiAness (Battle of Kalinga), fearlessness and bravery (valor in various wars and going to far away countries to trade facing all difficulties), artisanship and architecture (our temples and monuments, craft), culture (music, dance, food etc.), spiritual root (melting pot of Brahmanism, Shavisim, Buddhisim, Jainisim etc.), Blend of diversity (religions, cultures etc.), Literature, Science and many more.
The souvenir team encourages you
to submit original literary compositions related to the above theme. Poetry,
plays, stories, travelogues, essays, critical and creative pieces on any other
topic of interest to the oDiA community of
Original articles in both oDiA and English are welcome. Please submit your articles in electronic form either by email or by mailing a diskette/CD containing the article to any one of the following editors.

Contributions meeting the souvenir teams editorial standards will be published. Unaccepted articles will not be returned.

Competitions below.
Manuscript Submission Guidelines:
- Articles in oDiA and English are welcome from all age groups. They could be in any form including but not limited to stories, poems, plays, essays, travel stories, discussions, interviews, paintings, and photographs.
- Short (Half Page) articles
may also be submitted to celebrate USA/Canada National Level achievements
of members & their families.
- This year, we are planning
a special section to recognize voluntary (NGO) organizations that are
actively supported by OSA members. Half Page articles may be submitted
highlighting the mission and scope of activities of such organizations.
The OSA member submitting the article will be listed as the contact person
for the organization.
- Contributors
are also invited to submit One line interesting facts about Orissa
targeted towards informing children about Orissa
- All articles, including oDiA articles, must be word-processed and submitted in electronic form. Articles maybe submitted through e-mail or by mailing the diskette/CD containing the article.
- For
2007, the journal will be available as a published book as well as a soft
copy on CD. OSA members may submit content (photo articles / audio
articles) with a request to publish in CD only. These submissions should
be in electronic form only and less than 10 Mb in size.
- Articles should be preferably related to oDishA state, oDiA language, oDiA history and culture. They could also be based on experience of oDiAs living abroad or on impacting global oDiA community.
- Only one article per individual will be accepted in one language.
- Language and contents of all articles should be clean, and in good taste. The editors have the sole authority to decide if an article can be published.
- Please check grammar and spelling before submitting the manuscript.
- Please do not number your pages, as the page number will be different in the souvenir.
- If you need to include any picture, table or diagram, put those inside the text. Please do not attach them separately.
- Please write a few lines about the author to be put as footnote in the souvenir. If you are age 18 or under, please have one of your parents to submit your entry for you.
- Please try to limit the size of your articles to approximately 4 (four?) typed pages. (Specification: Font size and Spacing - Oriya: OR-TTSarala 17 single spacing; English: Arial 11 single spacing. Page size - MS-Word's default page size, i.e., 6"x9").
2007 Journal Competitions
- Cover Page Design based on Convention Theme:
Open to members of all age groups this competition invites Cover Page
Designs based on the convention theme. The submissions should be in standard A4
(8.5 x 11.5 size) and can be in color or B/W. Please include a brief
description articulating your thoughts for the graphic.
The editorial team may select one or more entries as winning entries. The
editorial team may also redesign / redo an entry to meet the standards for
Cover printing. The competition is not about producing a professional quality
graphic. It is the about bringing out the theme in the form of a graphic.
The winners will be recognized at the 2007 Convention.
2. Photo
Contest based on Convention theme, Orissa, Oriya tradition or Oriya culture:
Entries
should be related to Convention theme, Orissa, Oriya tradition or Oriya
culture. Open to members of all
age groups, this competition invites photographs taken by the members about
Orissa. Members may submit upto 5 photographs (Digital or 4 x 6 and larger).
The editorial team will select the winning entries to be recognized
during the convention. The entries will be published either in the Journal or
the Journal CD.

My USA/CANADA, My Orissa: Short experiential essay contest for age groups 4-8,
9-13, 14-18:
This competition invites young OSA to capture their
experiences and thoughts about their Motherland (
The winning entries will be published in the journal and winners will be recognized during the convention.
