Meera Das
Meera Das, Odissi Dancer

Meera Das is now a distinguished name and rising star in Indian Classical Dance - Odissi. The intrinsic talents of Meera flourished under the great masters like Late Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra and Guru Gangadhar Pradhan. Meera has been receiving rave reviews from discerning critics and admiration from audiences for her authentic renderings of Odissi. Meera has performed all over India and outside India sponsored by ICCR. She is a dance executive of Odissi Research Center and director of Gunjan Dance Academy, Cuttack, Orissa.
Susmita Das

Susmita Das is a well known singer in Orissa specializing in Light, Semi-Classical and Bhajans. She is a regular artist at the All India Radio,Cuttack and various TV channels. She also frequently performs live stage shows where she sings Hindi and Oriya film songs of yesteryears.
Aruna Mohanty
Meera Das, Odissi Dancer

Aruna Mohanty is an absolutely established name in Odissi dance and her skills have placed her amongst the finest of her generation. Apart from her technical virtuosity, she displays unique versatility in depicting varied emotions known as the Abhinaya aspect of Dance. A senior disciple of Guru Gangadhar Pradhan, Aruna has also received training from late Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra. She has many awards to her credit, namely,Mahari Award, Sanjukta Panigrahi Memorial National award and Fellowship by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. Aruna has performed extensively all over the world and many of her programmes have been sponsored by ICCR.
Binod Panda

Binod Bihari Panda is a young, extraordinarily talented, and versatile singer from Orissa. He is adept at classical and folk style music from regional Orissa as well as Hindustani classical and devotional songs. He is a performing artist in All India Radio. He has also performed in many musical festivals (Like Tridhara Festival, Mahabalipuram Festival, and Rajarani Festival) in India. He has given performances sponsored by Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) in France, Germany ,Italy, Spain and London. In 2003, his music with the renowned dancer Sonal Mansingh was a grand success in South Africa.

Cultural Guidelines are as follows:

  1. Group performances will be given priority over solo performances
  2. Time limit: 5 minutes for vocal, instrumental or dance and 10 minutes for plays
  3. Originality of the items will be given priority
  4. Cultural Team will select and schedule the performances
  5. Submit a copy of the video clip of the performance to Rinamaha@aol.com by March 15th, 2007
  6. All the national chapter awards will be given on the stage

Subrina Biswal Award for Children (Chapala-chhanda)

Will be held in conjunction with the ANNUAL OSA convention. The prize will be awarded in the form of First ($500), Second ($300) and Third prize ($200). Each cash prize will also accompany a certificate. The following are general guidelines. Please contact IAFF for further information.

RULES:

Application procedure:

Each participant should fill up the cultural participation form for the Subrina Biswal competition and send it with the convention registration packet.

Eligibility:

Each participant must be 18 yrs old or younger and must be a citizen or permanent resident of USA/CANADA/MEXICO. Visitors of any age are not eligible for the award. Children of students or visitor visa holders are eligible if their parents are residents of USA/CANADA/MEXICO

Registration fee:

No special registration is required. However, each participant must be registered for the OSA convention individually or through family registration.

Categories:

All categories are eligible except the following: magic, calisthenics, comedy or any other item that does not clearly represent performing arts. Comedy as part of drama or skit is acceptable.

Maximum number of items:

Each participant will be allowed one event solo and one event in group performance, if applicable. However, no winner can win the same prize (e.g. first, second, third) under the same general category (e.g. song, dance, instrumental etc) in two consecutive years. In a group participant, the whole group or selected individuals from the group may be awarded the prize. If the group wins the prize, the prize money will be divided equally among all eligible participants. The same person cannot win prize through both solo and group participation. He/she/must relinquish one of them.

The time and place:

To be determined by the host chapter organizer(s).

Judging:

Judging will be done primarily on the basis entertainment value and age-performance relationship rather than technical skills or abilities. Five Judges will be selected by IAFF in consultation with the host chapter organizer(s). Experts on any branch of performing arts will be excluded from the panel of judges. US IRS rules prohibit close relatives of participants from being selected as judges. In addition to the five judges to be selected from among the attendees, the IAFF representative will also function as a judge. His/her scores will be used only in the event of a tie; otherwise IAFF scores will not count.

Announcement of awardees:

Names of participants selected for the award will be announced at a time and place in consultation with the host-chapter organizer(s).

Award of the prize:

No monetary award will be made at the time of announcement. Winners will be handed claim vouchers by the IAFF representative in sealed envelopes. Winners must mail the claim vouchers along with requested information to IAFF to claim the prize. IAFF will use the supplied information to determine eligibility before sending the check and certificate. If any winner is found ineligible, the next ranked winner will be elevated to the respective prize.

Pramod Patnaik Interchapter Competition (Parampara)

Guidelines:

  1. Members of a given chapter can present more than one event, but only one per each chapter will be eligible to compete in this category,
  2. It is your responsibility to ensure that Your Chapter president endorses this event to be the competing entry on behalf of your chapter, and provide us with his/her e-mail and phone number, So that we can confirm. ,
  3. You may still wish to present an event without competing,
  4. Minimum four participants per entry from at least 2 families,
  5. Time limit: 8 minutes for vocal, Dance, Instrumental and 18 minutes for plays


The Cultural Team reserves the right to select and schedule specific performances based on overall time constraints and number of submissions. Unless explicitly prohibited, all events will be video taped.
